What is a brewpub? What is the difference between a brewpub and a
microbrewery?
Lets start by defining a microbrewery. A microbrewery
is a brewery that produces relatively small quantities of beer (less than 15,000 barrels
per year). Many microbreweries (like Sierra
Nevada), have become so successful that they can no longer be considered
microbreweries. However, they are still not in the same class as the really big breweries
(and that's a good thing).
A brewpub is a brewery with a pub. A brewpub isn't
limited to just small brewers. As long as the beer is brewed and served on the
premises it qualifies as a brewpub. Brewpubs typically include a kitchen, and in
fact many offer first class menus. Brewpubs range from the trendy and upscale to the
local neighborhood hangout.
